Galway Culture Night aims to showcase Galway’s rich cultural fabric along with cultural institutions throughout the city and County and ultimately make the Arts accessible to absolutely everyone – enthusiasts and novices alike. This year Culture Night is taking place on Friday 21st September from early afternoon to late into the night. This is the first year that a Culture Night Programme has been organised for County Galway. To our delight, 17 towns and villages across County Galway are holding 49 Culture Night events in 39 venues. Amongst these venues are some of County Galway’s richest cultural assets such as The Battle of Aughrim Interpretive Centre, Claregalway Castle, Athenry Castle, The Irish Workhouse Centre in Portumna, Portumna Castle and Coole Park.

Dozens of events are also taking place in the City including the Druid Theatre Company, the Town Hall Theatre, Galway City Library, St Patrick’s Band Hall and NUIG.
Everything is free of charge to the public so we really hope you help make Culture Night 2012 a night to be remembered!

We have an outstanding programme for you to choose from throughout Galway City and County with theatre, visual arts, talks, exhibitions, science, heritage, music, readings, film, dance performances, workshops, horticulture and gardens, literature and a whole lot more.

With dozens of free events taking place all over the city and County, there is plenty to see and get involved in, and we hope that there is something for everyone.

Why not go backstage at Druid Theatre, take a trip back in time to Medieval Galway, listen to the readings in Charlie Bynres bookshop, pop along to the Town Hall Theatre for the best of Galway theatre, take a tour of Claregalway Castle, enjoy a music night in Kinvara or watch a film in Athenry Castle?

The fun for night owls also features exhibitions open all over the city and late night film screenings and gigs.

Culture Night showcases Ireland’s rich cultural and artistic treasure and provides an opportunity to all to participate in free events throughout the nation.
